Christina Applegate to star in new sitcom. Christina Applegate has reportedly signed up to appear in a pilot for NBC.

The comedy has been penned by Saturday Night Live writer Emily Spivey, who produces the NBC series Parks and Recreation.

Deadline reports that Applegate has now landed the lead role in the project.

She will play a working mother who never expected that she would have children. The show will also feature the house husband and parents of Applegate's character.

Applegate, who reportedly received a number of offers this pilot season, previously starred in Samantha Who? She has also worked on shows including Friends, Jesse and Married with Children and has starred in movies such as Anchorman and Hall Pass.

The NBC project, which is in contention for the 2011-2012 season, is being executive produced by Saturday Night Live showrunner Lorne Michaels.

Christina Applegate Ready to be 'Up All Night' for NBC

Actress Christina Applegate is returning to prime time TV.
The Hall Pass star landed the lead role in NBC comedy 'Up All Night' as a working mother who has to cope with her stay-at-home husband.

The new mother will star in the show produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels.

The show also stars Saturday Night Live player Maya Rudolph and Arrested Development star Will Arnett.

The 39-year-old is not new to sitcom TV, having previously starred in Samantha Who? and the iconic Married with Children.

The Judas hitmaker could be set to make a move over to the acting world.

She told British newspaper the Daily Star: "I'd play a real b***h, a megab***h with attitude. It would be hilarious."

Speaking at Radio 1's Big Weekend she also admitted that she is a big fan of newlywed Kate Middleton's sister Pippa.

The 25-year-old added: "Kate looked great at the wedding but I thought that the sister Pippa oozed style."
